2 killed, more than 60 injured in Sealdah – Ajmer Express Train Derailment near Kanpur

KANPUR (GN News): 15 coaches (including 13 sleepers and two general) of Sealdah-Ajmer express derailed between Rura and Maitha Stations at 05:22 AM near Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh today. At least 2 persons have been killed and more than 60 passengers were injured in the mishap. According to the Railway ministry’s sources, the Accident Relief Train and Accident Relief Medical Van from Allahabad, Kanpur and Tundla rushed to the site for rescue operations. The NDRF team has also been deployed for the relief and rescue operations. At least 8 passengers have been reported to sustain serious injuries.

Suresh Prabhu, Minister of Railways announced an enhanced exgratia payment of ₹ 50,000/- for serious injuries and ₹ 25,000/- in case of simple injuries. The Railway administration has also ordered a statutory inquiry to probe the incident. The accident took place about 70 km from Kanpur.
