Suresh Kalmadi and Abhay Chautala appointed as Life president of the Indian Olympic Association; Sports Minister unhappy

Chennai (GN News)—  The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) unanimously elected Suresh Kalmadi and Haryana’s Indian National Lok Dal leader Abhay Singh Chautala as Life president of the association in a general meeting, which was held here today. The joint secretary of the association Rakesh Gupta proposed the names, which was unanimously passed by the general body. A total of 150 members were present at the meeting. IOA sources said that the decision was in line with the traditions of the Association, as all the ex-presidents had been elected as life presidents of the association. So, nothing is new about their appointments.But Sports Minister Vijay Goel has expressed his apprehension on this appointment and termed it as a very serious matter. He said that this is unacceptable; because both of them are facing corruption and criminal charges.   The Congress leader Kalmadi is a Commonwealth Games (CWG) scam accused. He is alleged to have been involved in corruption in relation to the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
